Typing this review has taken a bit of moral fortitude: the Abadessa is a little slice of Heaven that any self-respecting traveller wants both to share with the world, and keep as a personal secret. With only 12 stunning rooms and suites, this painstakingly conserved and restored Palace is on a quiet canal in an excellent strategic position. It has a secret garden courtyard where breakfast is served, and charming staff. Tom Cannavan
